Jamie Smith of The xx has been busy mixing ‘three years worth of music’ in New York with an eye on releasing a solo album, but has said new music from The xx is also still very much on the agenda.
“There’s one track where I need to get the vocal on, but I don’t know who the vocalist is going to be yet,” he’s told Fader of his solo plans. “I never really listen to lyrics, but I can understand them a little bit more when it’s spoken word rather than singing. It gets to my head a bit quicker.”
Meanwhile, the last time we heard from The xx they were reported to have been spending time in Iceland and the United States with a view to following up to 2012’s ‘Coexist‘, but Jamie has now suggested the potential third album will be completed in London.
“We’ve got quite a lot of songs that are not finished, but I’m excited about it,” he continued. “It feels a lot more free than when we were making the last record.”I think the most inspiring thing, really, is just not being anywhere crazy and just being at home.”
