Taking what it described as the ‘festival ripple effect’ – that would be an increase in streams after their headliners’ performances – Spotify has named Glastonbury as the world’s most influential festival.

According to Spotify’s figures, there was a 78% global boost in interest for this year’s Glastonbury headliners Arcade Fire, Metallica and Kasabian after their appearances at Worthy Farm last June. Second was Australia’s Future Music event, whose main acts enjoyed a 70% average increase.

“That’s fantastic news,” Glastonbury’s co-organiser Emily Eavis remarks. “It’s amazing to think that the music we hear in these fields in Somerset at festival time is reaching out to so many people. Hopefully we will carry on bringing the best new music – alongside the legends of course! – to Worthy Farm for many years to come.”
