Manic Street Preachers: Time is right to revisit ‘The Holy Bible’ on tour

Manic Street Preachers bass player Nicky Wire has said the positive response heaped on their most recent album ‘Futurology‘ helped to convince the band that the time is right to mark the 20th anniversary of their 1994 third studio release ‘The Holy Bible‘.

Celebratory gigs in Glasgow, Manchester, London and Dublin this coming December were confirmed on social media yesterday (September 23rd), and Wire has told the BBC a good 2014 helped to sway the decision.

“If we’d been coming off the back of a bit of a dud album then we probably would’ve thought people might think we’re doing this because we’ve had a bad year or something,” he said. “But because we’ve had such a good year, it feels like the right time.

The album’s highly-charged natured arguably marked the zenith of their Richey Edwards-era; the influential guitarist and songwriter disappeared in February 1995 – less than six months on from ‘The Holy Bible’ – but Wire added that he doesn’t believe revisiting this final chapter of sorts will make any difference to a tragic event which the remaining bandmates ‘live with every day’.

“I don’t think there’s any kind of tumultuous difference, you just kind of live with that every day really,” he concluded.
