Karen O has delved further into the personal heartache which inspired her debut solo album ‘Crush Songs‘.

The tracks were written between 2006-2007 – a period previously described by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer thus: “When I was 27 I crushed a lot. I wasn’t sure I’d ever fall in love again. These songs were written and recorded in private around this time.”

And speaking to The Independent just ahead of the album’s release through Julian Casablancas‘ Cult Records label this week, Karen O has elaborated; “Heartbreak is one of the feelings that makes you feel most alive,” she said.

“I mean, it totally reduces you to rubble, but you don’t feel it very often in your life, and once you’re settled, you’re settled, so who doesn’t want to revisit that melodrama and rekindle some of those feelings?”

Another song from the album has recently been uploaded to YouTube. Check out ‘Day Go By‘ below.
