Franz Ferdinand, Mogwai and Frightened Rabbit performed at a special concert in support of Scottish independence on September 14th ahead of the country’s historic referendum on Thursday.

A crowd of around 3,000 people packed into Edinburgh’s Usher Hall, and Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos is reported to have told them:

“It feels incredible to be standing here on the edge if this stage tonight on the edge of history. I’m not the kind of guy that’s used to making any sort of speech. I’m a man of few words, tonight I’m a man of one word and that word is ‘Yes’.”

Despite there once being a fairly comfortable lead for the ‘No’ vote, polls have tightened significantly ahead of this week’s referendum as Scotland decides whether to remain a part of the United Kingdom, with many commentators declaring the race too close to call. Voters are being asked a simple question: ‘Should Scotland be an independent country?’.
