Dave Gilmour: Pink Floyd’s new album is emotional tribute to Richard Wright

The fruits of 1994 Pink Floyd sessions have been resurrected for ‘The Endless River‘, an album of instrumental and experimental music which is released on November 10th.

The nature of the LP means contributions from the band’s late keyboard player Richard Wright, who sadly died in 2008, live on two decades since they were first recorded. And speaking to Uncut, Dave Gilmour has said that very reason – an ’emotional tribute’ to their bandmate – is the main driving force behind the release.

“When we finished ‘The Division Bell’ sessions, we had many pieces of music, only nine of which had become songs on the LP,” Gilmour said. “Now with Rick gone and with him the chance of ever doing it again, it feels right these revisited tracks tracks should be made available as part of our repertoire.”

“It is a tribute to him. I mean, to me, it’s very evocative and emotional in a lot of moments. And listening to all the stuff made me regret his passing all over again. This is the last chance someone will get to hear him playing along with us on that way he did.”
