The Cribs have ended a 10-year association with independent label Wichita Recordings which began with their 2004 self-titled debut album.

In readiness for the release of their sixth album, expected some time next spring, the Jarman brothers have jumped ship to Sony RED, with their manager citing a ‘fresh impetus and new approach’ as the reason for their departure.

“After a very enjoyable decade together with Wichita, the band felt the fresh impetus and a new approach would be advantageous for their sixth studio album,” James Sandom told Music Week. “They have huge respect for Wichita, and fond memories of their achievements together.”

Intriguingly, last week The Cribs revealed they are working with producer Ric Ocasek, once of The Cars, on their latest LP. “He doesn’t do records like a gun for hire; he chooses a band,” Ryan Jarman said during an interview with NME.

“We’ve been trying to get him since the third record, now he thinks we’re definitely good enough.”
