Morrissey and Harvest Records ‘not of the same species’

Morrissey‘s gone back to his fansite True To Youand has given a more detailed reason for his abrupt departure from Harvest Records, with whom he only signed a deal with at the start of this year.

The singer had previously alluded to a disagreement surrounding the melodramatic spoken word videos which were issued during the weeks leading up to the release of ‘World Peace Is None Of Your Business‘ and now, despite it being widely assumed that label execs were against the idea, it seems it was actually Morrissey who pushed, to no avail, for a more conventional approach to his new solo album’s promotion.

“None of the videos gave any clue as to what World peace is none of your business intended to be, or is,” Morrisey has written. “The films were OK, but they went nowhere and stayed there.”

“The label responded with frosty aloofness, and I suddenly realized that we were not, after all, of the same species,” he continued on his request for an ‘Istanbul’ video. “I ploughed into them insisting upon ‘proper band videos, where the band play and I sing’ – an evidently confusing concept that required seven weeks of explanation, detailed graphs and several drawn up maps.”
