Pete Doherty has declared The Libertines are ‘getting on better than ever’ before the band’s major live return tonight (July 5th).

With warm-up shows in Glasgow completed, The Libertines are set to headline the British Summer Times festival at London’s Hyde Park, topping a bill which also includes The Pogues, Spiritualized, Maximo Park, The Enemy, Graham Coxon and more.

Festival appearances in Spain and Portugal, as well as a full blown European tour for September, are their first live outings since 2010, and Doherty has given a glowing report of the return so far.

“We’re getting on better than we ever did. Even back in the day,” he told NME. “The Libertines, in order for us to do it, it means you put everything else at risk, basically. I always use words like, ‘Oh it’s unfathomably great’ or ‘unspeakably great’ but ‘unspeakably great’ would be the correct adjective now.”

Doherty has his own solo tour booked for July, when he’ll play the Nottingham Bodega, the Oxford Academy and the Bristol Fleece.
