Listening to The 1975‘s debut album convinced The Gaslight Anthem to track down that particular record’s producer Mike Crossey as they searched for a different sound whilst working on their own new album.

“You get a realisation at some point in your career that whatever it is you do, you can no longer continue to do it,” Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon tells NME. “You just realise you can’t put out the same records forever.”

“We were like, ‘Well that sounds different – what would happen if a band like us works with a guy who makes records sound like that?’,” he continues on the 1975 LP. I think people are going to be like, ‘Wow, I didn’t know a band that play punk rock could play something that heavy, or something that pretty.”

The Gaslight Anthem release ‘Get Hurt‘ on August 18th and later tour the UK in November.
