No ‘cynical’ covers from Foals at Bestival headline

Ambition, evolution and a string of first rate albums can still get you places – just ask Foals.

The band’s stock has risen significantly during the past few years, thanks almost exclusively to the old fashioned qualities of 2010’s ‘Total Life Forever‘ and last year’s ‘Holy Fire‘. That growth will be cemented in September when the band become festival headliners for the first time at Bestival

And it looks like the single-minded drive which has pushed them to the top of the bill will be reflected in the setlist; as frontman Yannis Philippakis has told NME, it’s unlikely there will be any rabble rousing, ‘cynical’ covers on the night.

“A lot of the time recently I’ve been realising that a lot of bands are doing collaborations or covers,” he said. “Cynically employed covers. I don’t know whether to get involved in it or not. Because obviously it works and there’s a reason why everyone’s doing it, but I also just kind of want to play our own songs. We wrote them. And that’s what we wanna play. We want to do a Foals show.”

Foals are headlining Bestival on the Isle Of Wight along side Outkast, Beck and Chic feat. Nile Rodgers.
