The Manic Street Preachers are on their way into the Top 10 of the UK Album Chart with ‘Futurology‘.

The band’s latest studio effort is at #2 on the official midweek chart, behind Ed Sheeran‘s ‘x‘ which looks set to claim a third week on top.

‘Futurology’ is quickly following last year’s ‘Rewind The Film‘. “The view from the front regarding ‘Futurology‘ was that it would be indebted to krautrock in terms of form, but any suggestion that it stands as some evil Teutonic doppelgänger to ‘Rewind The Film’ is rubbished with a single listen,” Live4ever’s review reads.

“The immediate conclusion instead is that the Manics haven’t been as overtly mainstream since 2007′s ‘Send Away The Tigers‘.”

UK Midweek Album Chart, Top 10:

1/ Ed Sheeran – ‘x’
2/ Manic Street Preachers – ‘Futurology’
3/ Dolly Parton – ‘Blue Smoke: The Best Of’
4/ Sam Smith – ‘In The Lonely Hour’
5/ Example – ‘Live Life Living’
6/ George Ezra – ‘Wanted On Voyage’
7/ 5 Seconds Of Summer – ‘5 Seconds Of Summer’
8/ Coldplay – ‘Ghost Stories’
9/ Sia – ‘1000 Forms Of Fear’
10/ Kasabian – ’48:13′
