Arcade Fire triumph on first night of Glastonbury 2014

Arcade Fire set a standard their weekend successors will surely struggle to match during a glittering headline set on the first night (June 27th) of Glastonbury 2014.

With a stage designed to the bombastic specifications asked for by the band since the release of ‘Reflektor‘ last year, Arcade Fire pulled off a memorable performance as tracks from that most recent studio album found an extra dimension in the big festival setting, while early favourites such as ‘Rebellion (Lies)‘, ‘Tunnels‘ and set closer ‘Wake Up‘ were also present and correct.

Earlier, Glastonbury had experienced a bang of a different kind when an early evening electrical storm forced bands off stage and resulted in a power down across the site.

Tonight, Metallica will be making their much discussed headline bow on the Pyramid Stage. Those looking for a more traditional experience might be over at the Other Stage which is topped by Jake Bugg.
