Arcade Fire play second night at Earls Court ‘before they tear it down for condos’

Arcade Fire played a cover of The Smiths b-side ‘London‘ during their second night at the eponymous city’s Earls Court venue on June 7th.

According to NME, frontman Win Butler had earlier told the crowd they wanted to play the venue after its future was thrown into doubt last summer when redevelopment plans which would see it demolished to make way for a 5-acre public park were given approval by London mayor Boris Johnson.

“We wanted to do Earls Court before they tear it down for condos,” Butler said. “Get your bids in now. Hope they’re cheap.”

The Earl’s Court Area Action Group was quickly set-up in opposition to the plans, launching a petition which to-date has attracted over 4,000 signatures.
