Pete Doherty has told this week’s NME he is working on a new solo album in Hamburg with producer Johann Scheerer – despite apparently being under label orders not to discuss it.

“I’ve got 10 tunes done now,” he revealed. “There’s that one song ‘Down For The Outing’, which I’ve had for a while now, but it’s incredible – Johann’s made it sound like a brand new song.”

“I don’t know what the deal is with EMI Publishing,” he continued. “I’ve been told not to tell anyone about the album, but I’m supposed to be someone who writes songs and makes records. Everybody thinks I’m up to no good here, but I’m not. It’s a really clean place and I’m just trying to move forward – that’s the truth.”

Doherty is about to return to life with The Libertines this summer as the band prepare for headline appearances at British Summer Time and Benicassim in July.
