Carl Barat‘s new band The Jackals will play a small gig in Reading next week as preparation for their live bow proper at the London XOYO on May 15th.

Two days earlier, the group – which also consists of guitarist Billy Tessio, bassist Adam Claxton and drummer Jay Bone and was picked by Barat from over 1,000 applications on Facebook – will play the Bowery District in Sub89. Support is provided by Lois & The Love and Trampolene.

Carl Barat had been expected to release his second solo album late last year, but instead abruptly declared his intention to form a new band as he wanted to once again be ‘a part of something that’s bigger than its individual parts’.

In addition, Barat returns to his first love, The Libertines, in July when the group make a second live comeback since their messy 2004 implosion. They play London’s Hyde Park on July 5th as headliners of the British Summertime Festival.
