The Libertines‘ live return has been confirmed.

Pete Doherty, Carl BaratJohn Hassall and Gary Powell will reunite onstage for the first time since 2010 to headline the British Summertime Festival at London’s Hyde Park on Saturday, July 5th. Special guests will be The Pogues, Spiritualized, Maximo Park and The Enemy.

The band made a similar comeback for the 2010 Reading/Leeds Festival and a handful of warm-up gigs – their first public reconciliation since a messy split was confirmed in the wake of Pete Doherty’s departure and the release of their second, self-titled album in 2004.

Rumours began circulating of a return last week when The Libertines’ official Facebook page posted an image of Hyde Park, this coinciding with quotes attributed to Doherty in which he claimed to have accepted an invitation to rejoin the group which first made his name.

A few days later, Barat was reported to have told Gigslutz that fans should keep the now-confirmed date free during a DJ set in London.

The British Summertime Festival was launched last year when The Rolling Stones made an emotional return to Hyde Park.
