Happy Mondays‘ dancer Bez has opened up about his newly found ambition to become an MP, saying he wants his Reality Party to give a credible ‘alternative’ to young people at the 2015 General Election.

The prospective honourable member for Madchester South tells this week’s NME: “All you see is war and greed on the telly, which changes people’s consciousness. Everything on the news is fear-based. We need a Bez Broadcasting Corporation spreading peace and love!”

Next year, Bez will stand as an independent candidate in the Salford & Eccles constituency, a traditional safe house for Labour.

“We need a revolution,” he continues. “But now I’ve crossed out the ‘r’ and am calling it ‘evolution’ because we need to evolve. With The Reality Party, young people have an alternative. I’ve never voted in my life because there’s nobody to represent my views. I’m offering people the chance to change through the ballot box.”
