Wild Beasts: Selling song to an advert ‘helped us carry on doing what we’re doing’

Wild Beasts were torn over whether to allow their song ‘Underbelly‘ to be used in a television advertising campaign, but have admitted giving the go-ahead gave them the financial support to ‘carry on doing what they were doing’.

“We sucked corporate cocks at one point,” frontman Hayden Thorpe told Middle Boop.

“I think it is quite a hard world out there and sadly sometimes it is quite easy to make ends meet by just being completely single-minded and not being 100 per cent pure on your output for what it’s used for. I think that when that opportunity came along, it’s not like it bought us all four big houses but I did mean that we could carry on doing what we were doing.”

‘Carrying on’ has resulted in the group’s fourth studio album ‘Present Tense‘, which is due for release at the end of this month and follows 2011’s ‘Smother‘.
