Video: Villagers unveil standalone single ‘Occupy Your Mind’

Villagers have unveiled a politically charged standalone single entitled ‘Occupy Your Mind‘ in time for the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The Olympics in Russia have been dogged by controversy due to recent archaic Gay Rights laws adopted by the country, and band leader Conor J O’Brien has described the track as being, ‘Written for you, your mother, your father and your gay brothers and sisters in Russia’. It has a video directed by Alden Volney which can be viewed below.

Ostensibly, it is the first bit of new material from the band since last year’s ‘{Awayland}‘ LP. In naming it as one of our Essentials for 2013, Live4ever’s review commented that:

“Perhaps the key transformation here though is in the performances themselves. ‘Becoming A Jackal’ was a band supporting a songwriter but ‘{Awayland}’ sounds like a band being a band that just happens to have a great songwriter at its core. The signs are embossed in every song.”
