U2 have raised a reported £1.9m for Bono‘s (RED) foundation since ‘Invisible‘ was released as a free download on iTunes following its premiere during the Super Bowl coverage in the States on Sunday (February 2nd).

Bank Of America pledged to pay $1 to the project which aims to fight HIV/AIDs, tuberculosis and malaria around the world for every download registered in the 24 hours ‘Invisible’ was available for free. According to reports, that total has surpassed 3 million, and as a result 99p from each regular purchase of the track on iTunes from now will also go into the pot.

A full video for ‘Invisible’, directed by Mark Romanek, is expected later this week, while Bono was on BBC radio recently offering a less-than-glamorous insight into the making of U2’s forthcoming new album.

“We’re here in this great nation, in this capital, in some dank basement,” he told Zane Lowe. “Where I’m calling from, as we speak, there were mice spotted earlier. We call it the Oil Rig.”
