The Enemy’s Tom Clarke unimpressed as Radio 1 boss declares a return for guitar bands

The Enemy‘s Tom Clarke has responded in a less than positive way after Radio 1 boss George Ergatoudis decided to proclaim the return of the guitar band.

No doubt with a keen, dollar-signed eye on the renewed success of the Arctic Monkeys since ‘AM‘ made an appearance last year, Ergatoudis apparently paved the way for a return to his hideous playlists for guitar-based acts when telling the equally hideously titled ‘Radio Academy Playlists: What Makes a Hit In 2014?’ event in London that the ‘appetite for guitar bands is slowly starting to return’ and ‘will be bigger next year’.

Unsurprisingly, Clarke was unimpressed with the comments, and in a series of messages on Twitter wrote:

“I’m so fucking glad this 1,000 year old rich middle class man has enlightened us all to what’s going to be cool. Guitar bands worked out during the famine years that we don’t need Radio One to have top ten records. That’s what’s cool.”

The Enemy enjoyed hit records and number one albums as rock music enjoyed a fresh renaissance in the middle part of the last decade but, like many others, have witnessed a distinct drop sales-wise in recent years.
