The Civil Wars just can’t get the hang of this hiatus lark can they?

Despite apparent tensions between Joy Williams and John Paul White officially bringing a halt to the duo in 2012, they have since released a sublime self-titled album and now share a version of Elliott Smith’s ‘Between The Bars‘ via NPR.org as a precursor to a digital release of the titular covers EP which was previously released on vinyl only for the 2013 Record Store Day Black Friday.

The Civil Wars‘ was named as one of Live4ever’s essential releases of last year as our review concluded:

“If there’s one thing that sums up ‘The Civil Wars’, it’s a line Bob Dylan sang nearly half a century ago: “It’s a restless, hungry feeling, that don’t mean no one no good.” This record is full of those kind of feelings; the ones you feel in the pit of your stomach, the ones you know won’t go away from thinking about somebody.”

“But you’ve got to think about them. That’s why records like this strike such resonance, and why we can’t stop listening to them.”
