The NME Awards will present Sir Paul McCartney with the specially created, one-off Songwriter’s Songwriter prize when its 2014 ceremony takes place in London later this month.

“We’ve spoken to the biggest and best musicians around, and they’ve told us: Paul McCartney is the world’s ultimate songwriter,” NME editor Mike Williams says.

“Paul’s enduring and stunning talent is worth celebrating, and I’m incredibly honoured that NME are giving him the special, one-of-its-kind Songwriter’s Songwriter award to recognise that.”

Another confirmed winner is Belle & Sebastian, who will collect the Outstanding Contribution To Music award. The two acts join other previously announced winners Blondie, who are to be presented with the Godlike Genius trophy, and Damon Albarn who is the first recipient of the NME Award For Innovation.

The 2014 NME Awards are to be held on February 26th at the Brixton Academy in London. Arctic Monkeys are virtually certain to go home with their hands full having been nominated in all the major categories following a hugely successful period since the release of ‘AM‘ last year.
