Despite beginning work on a new album at the start of last year, The Maccabees have revealed they still only have two songs fully completed.

Giving an update to NME, guitarist Felix White explained that the ongoing writing process is holding things up, though frontman Orlando Weeks added they feel no undue pressure to complete with a planned September release in mind.

“We started the record at the beginning of 2013,” White said. “We went into the studio with the idea that it was going to be finished by now. And we’ve finished two songs. We’ve got a lot of songs but every time you write something new, it raises the standard.”

“Because we haven’t really come across the songs that set the tone or mood for this record yet, we’re kind of shooting in the dark,” Weeks continued. “But I like that: there isn’t a specific thing I’m trying to funnel stuff into.”

Any new album this year will be their first since 2012’s ‘Given To The Wild‘ went on to become the most commercially successful release of their career to-date.
