Well at least he’s honest – Ricky Wilson has admitted he accepted an invitation to take up residence on one of the The Voice‘s spinning chairs in the hope that it will help the new Kaiser Chiefs album ‘get noticed’.

After hitting a commercial peak in 2007 with the release of their UK chart-topping second album ‘Yours Truly, Angry Mob‘, the Kaiser Chiefs have witnessed a gradual decline in sales with subsequent records; the group were forced to deny rumours of a split and being dropped by their label in the months after their third LP ‘Off With Their Heads‘ hit the shelves, while bass player Simon Rix admitted the innovative way in which the 2011 LP ‘The Future Is Medieval‘ was promoted ultimately resulted in ‘no-one knowing it was out’.

Now they are due to return in the spring with ‘Education, Education, Education & War‘, and Wilson is hoping his stint on The Voice will provide a shot in the arm for his group after the departure of drummer and songwriter Nick Hodgson dealt them another blow last year.

“I love my band and I want our new record to get noticed,” he disclosed to NME. “I know that everyone is going, ‘He thinks he’s going to sell more records and more tickets.’ And that is why I’m doing it. I’m not a fucking idiot.”
