Foster The People have unveiled a snippet of new material which is due to feature on their follow-up to 2011’s ‘Torches‘ sometime this year.

The 45-second segment hints at a move into the US alt-rock world for the band after the synth-led sound which made up their smash hit single ‘Pumped Up Kicks‘ and the majority of the debut album.

Speaking to Rolling Stone last November, frontman Mark Foster said he expects that shift in direction to be ‘polarising’.

“Once I write something, I never try to write that same style again, because I get very schizophrenic musically,” he explained. “This record, I went into it wanting to do something more organic and human, because the first record was so electronic and synthetic – in a cool way, I’m not putting it down, that’s just what it was. So this record, I wanted to make something more human and let the songs breathe and grow and turn and take left turns and not come back if they want to.”
