Foo Fighters doyen Dave Grohl has offered an update on the band’s embryonic eighth studio album during a chat with BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe.

“We haven’t really disclosed exactly what we are doing,” Grohl remarked, before going on to detail the different approach being taken in the studio which he expects to produce results that will ‘surprise’ people.

“I know what it sounds like and I honestly think the entire concept is really going to take people by surprise and it sounds nuts,” he continued. “We recorded something the other day that’s unlike anything we’ve ever done and it starts with a fuse and then it explodes.”

Drummer Taylor Hawkins told Billboard at the beginning of last summer that Foo Fighters were ‘just getting started’ on the follow-up to ‘Wasting Light‘. They later made a live return in Mexico at the 55,000-capacity Foro Sol Stadium in December, covering The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Tom Petty in the process.
