YouTube users will have the dubious pleasure of being able to watch this year’s Brit Awards ceremony after organisers announced their intention to the stream the event live on the site.

In the UK, the Brits are going out as normal on ITV, but for the first time there will now be online coverage when the awards night takes place on February 19th at the O2 Arena in London.

YouTube is also coming on board for the inaugural Brits Social Vote Award; on February 10th nominees for the Best Video prize, compiled from official YouTube views, will be unveiled with a live vote being held on Twitter during the Brits celebrations to determine the winner.

Arctic Monkeys have nominations in the British Group and British Album categories in the wake of the success of ‘AM‘, while David Bowie also has nods for his ‘The Next Day‘ record and in the Best Male Solo Artist section.
