The Which? consumer magazine has launched the Play Fair On Ticket Fees campaign which it hopes will encourage ticket sites to explain the various online add-on fees which the majority of its readers have described as being too expensive when compared to a music, concert or comedy ticket’s basic price.

Which? has conducted research on booking, transaction and delivery fees, finding 67% of those surveyed believing the additional costs are too expensive, while 91% felt it unfair to be charged to print tickets and 89% thought it wrong to be charged extra to collect tickets in person.

“Consumers tell us they are feeling ripped off by the level of ticketing charges and the lack of transparency means it is almost impossible for people to compare prices when booking online,” Which? executive director Richard Lloyd has said.

“We want to see the ticketing industry Play Fair on Ticket Fees, so that all charges are displayed upfront and with a clear explanation of what they’re for.”

A case in point highlighted was a £25 ticket bought at See Tickets for a Jimmy Carr stand-up performance in Wolverhampton; added to the base price was a £3 booking fee and a £6.50 delivery fee – a mark up of 38%.
