X Factor boss Simon Cowell has casually brushed off the criticism aimed at his ‘talent’ show by Jake Bugg, intimating that he has never heard of the Nottingham songwriter.

Bugg has in the past said he feels it is his ‘job’ to be more popular than any wannabes from X Factor, but when quizzed on the comments by Shortlist, Cowell asked, ‘What’s that?’ of Bugg before adding, ‘Ah, that’s a shocker’.

Going further on the criticism X Factor regular receives, Cowell said: “Why do people get upset that there is a show that gives people who can’t get a record deal a chance to have a record deal? Everyone’s had a pop at it, and I criticise people on the show so you’ve got to expect it back in return. But you know what? They all secretly watch it. They’re all, ‘I hate it’ and get really angry, but they’re watching it every night.”

Jake Bugg released his second studio album ‘Shangri La‘ last month, missing out on the UK Album Chart’s top spot to Robbie Williams.
