The Virgins announce break-up

New York band The Virgins have announced their split after the release of second album ‘Strike Gently‘ earlier this year.

“There’s nothing I’d hoped to do with The Virgins that we haven’t done,” frontman Donald Cumming has said in a statement. “It’s been an incredible experience and I want to thank everyone who was a part of it, but now it’s time to move on. I’ll see you in my dreams.”

And speaking to Rolling Stone, Cumming has appeared to suggest the break-up has come about as a result of him simply not wanting be in a band anymore.

“I was a young guy and wanted to be in a band and it was great, but I don’t feel that way anymore,” he said. “I’m an adult now and I think there’s something really unsettling about a grown man walking around pretending to be a teenager.”

The Virgins were set to embark on a tour of Europe from January next year – those with tickets for any of those shows can claim a refund from the point of purchase.
