The Rolling Stones will be in Australia next year to officially open the newly refurbished Adelaide Oval.

“It’s great to be invited to open the historic Oval,” Mick Jagger has said. “We’re really looking forward to this gig, it will be the first time we have been in Adelaide in nearly 20 years.”

The Adelaide Oval has been the subject of a £300 million redevelopment, and plays host to the Stones on March 22nd 2014, with more Australian dates promised in due course. Former guitarist Mick Taylor will also make an appearance as a ‘special guest’ of the band.

The news could signal a busy year for The Rolling Stones, who have been touring on and off since the end of 2012 to mark their 50th anniversary. While those gigs ended in the summer with no promise of more activity, Mick Jagger admitted he would ‘love’ to get back out on the road when speaking to the London Evening Standard at the Harper’s Bazaar Women Of The Year Awards earlier this month.
