The Futureheads are on a prolonged break at the moment, and while guitarist Ross Millard explores his grittier side with Rivals, frontman Barry Hyde is exploring his culinary side at the Juniper’s Pantry deli in Sunderland.

“I’m at the bottom of the ladder,” Hyde has told NME of his ambition to become a qualified chef, which he hopes will eventually lead him to placements at the Michelin-starred  La Gavroche and Nobu. “I get to wear the whites, but I mainly do preparation, get shouted at and clean up after messy chefs.”

“There are similarities between music and food,” he continued. “They are both about creating something that exists in a moment in time, then it’s gone and it’s never quite the same next time you do it.”

“I managed to burn 50 Yorkshire puddings last week. I also want to work in Michelin starred restaurants like La Gavroche and Nobu and travel the world learning about different country’s cuisines.”

The Futureheads were last active in 2012 with the a cappella album ‘Rant‘, while Millard’s new band released their debut single ‘I’m Not An Animal‘ last month.
