Robbie Williams is still in front of Jake Bugg in the race for the UK’s 1000th number one album.

The singer’s is apparently opening up a strong lead over Jake Bugg’s second record, outselling ‘Shangri La‘ at a rate of three copies to one. Eminem‘s ‘The Marshall Mathers LP II‘ is at #3 on the midweeks, with JLS and Celine Dion completing the Top 5.

Speaking on Monday Martin Talbot, chief executive at the Official Charts Company, said it would be fitting if Williams’ album becomes the UK’s 1000th number one.

“The race is on – and it is fitting that Robbie Williams is in the lead to become the 1000th Official Number 1 Album,” he said. “His new album Swings Both Ways echoes the very first Number 1 album, Frank Sinatra’s Songs For Swingin’ Lovers – and Robbie is a genuine legend of the Official Albums Chart.”
