Sir Paul McCartney, Queens Of The Stone Age and Atoms For Peace are among the 50 acts to have had albums nominated for this year’s Best Art Vinyl prize.

“For the past eight years we have celebrated the artistic value of record covers through the award, enabling us to get a snapshot of public opinion on record sleeve art,” Best Art Vinyl founder Andrew Heeps says.

The sleeve art for Paul McCartney’s 2013 album ‘New‘ (pic) is up for the award, while Queens Of The Stone Age and Atoms For Peace have been nominated thanks to the work on ‘…Like Clockwork‘ and ‘Judge, Jury and Executioner‘ respectively.

“The Best Art Vinyl Award is a unique opportunity to discover new artists in the broadest sense and reflect on new work by some of the now great masters of the art world,” Heeps continues. “These exhibitions celebrate an artistic spectrum which span from the likes of Damien Hirst’s mass market appeal to the weird and wonderful designs, some of which have been hand crafted and produced in as little as 100 copies.”

Babyshambles – who had the artwork for their LP ‘Sequel To The Prequel‘ designed by the aforementioned Damien Hirst – Editors, Daft Punk and Drenge are just some of the other acts to have been mentioned on the longlist, which can be seen in full here.
