There’s been more good news for the UK’s independent music scene today with new figures suggesting indie labels have enjoyed a record sales high for the 21st century so far.

Music Week reports that music released on independent labels during 2013 has accounted for 26.4% of all sales in the UK – a 5% rise when compared to 2012. This after it was revealed back in the summer that the UK’s independent music shops are witnessing an equally successful year, with sales up by 44% for the first six months of 2013 from the same period last year. Overall albums sales in general continue to decline, and are at a level 30% down on what was achieved in 2005.

David Bowie‘s comeback album ‘The Next Day‘ was revealed by the Official Charts Company in October to be the most popular release of the year at those independent music outlets, with Daft Punk, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Queens Of The Stone Age and the Arctic Monkeys not far behind.
