Renaissance continues for Glastonbury after tickets sell-out in record time

The 2014 Glastonbury Festival sold out in record time yesterday (October 6th) as well over 100,000 tickets were snapped up within one-and-a-half hours of going onsale.

According to the event’s organisers, all the tickets had gone after one hour and 27 minutes to be precise, beating last year’s record of one hour and 40 minutes.

“We have, once again, been blown away by the numbers of people who were hoping to join us at the festival,” a statement said. “We genuinely try to make the ticket system as fair as it can be.”

The high demand continues a renaissance for Glastonbury following its well documented troubles in 2008, when slow ticket sales foreshadowed the now widespread financial struggles being suffered by many UK events.

Yet while a saturated market and high ticket prices have an increasingly detrimental affect on the annual festival season, Glastonbury is now spectacularly bucking the trend after narrowly surviving those same difficulties five years ago.

Fleetwood Mac are being strongly tipped to headline the Pyramid Stage next June, as are The Stone Roses and Depeche Mode.
