Live4ever’s New Tunes Guide feat. Best Friends, The Growlers and more


The New Tunes Guides for October are brought to an end this week with cracking highlights from Sheffield’s Best Friends and Californian quintet The Growlers.

Best Friends have just recently unveiled the video for ‘Nosebleeds’, a toe-tappingly catchy number which forms a part of the ‘Happy Anniversary’ single – out now through Art Is Hard Records. From the other side of the Atlantic, The Growlers geared up for their latest UK visit with the online release of ‘Dogheart II’, lifted from the ‘Not. Psych!’ EP. The UK tour began in Edinburgh earlier this week, and still has vBristol, London, Brighton and Oxford visits to come.

“Canada’s Neon Windbreaker have shared the title track of their forthcoming EP ‘New Sky’. Neon Windbreaker recently unveiled the track ‘Pink Suit’ as well as their debut UK shows, which begin 29th October. The band have previously played the US and Canada with the likes of METZ, Pissed Jeans and Male Bonding and the band’s short run of UK dates now takes in shows in Brighton, Bournemouth and two in London. ‘The New Sky’ EP is released on October 28th.”

Allusondrugs are a 5-piece from Castleford, West Yorkshire who formed in the autumn of 2012. New double A-side single ‘Fruit’ / ’MyCat’ follows on from debut single ‘Plasters’, and was recorded at their HQ near Leeds. The double A-side single will be released on Clue Records on November 11th as a limited edition CD run of 100.”

“Originating from Essex, Bambi are a new London based indie band. Having been together for only 7 months, they¹ve supported Tom Odell, Professor Green and Mark Ronson on the main stage at this year¹s Brownstock Festival. They self-released their first track ‘All Along’ and new single ‘Reap From The Dying Love’ is available for sale and download 17th November.”

Super73 are from central England, emerging from the ashes of previous bands Themselves, Ictus and Citizen Smith. It’s early days, having formed in October 2012, but in that time S73 have been picked up by BBC Introducing in the Midlands, played Support to Arcane Roots, US Giants Everclear, appeared on an Emma Scott Presents night in Birmingham and recently supported Welsh Band Attack! Attack! at the O2 Academy in Leicester. Their debut EP, ‘Remember.Bulletproof.’, is due for a self release on November 5th.”

“Hailing from the Waikato in New Zealand, Sound The Ocean is comprised of music teachers that have been writing and recording music together for over two years. ‘Spring’ is taken from the debut album ‘Wait For The Morning’, due early 2014. The video was shot at Woodhill Forest; the same forest that provided the backdrop for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe and Xena: The Warrior Princess.”

“Nicole Mourelatos, known to her fans as Doris Cellar, is launching a new solo career but is hardly a newcomer to the music industry.  At 16, Doris began writing and recording in her hometown of Astoria Queens, New York City. When she took her music to the Subway platforms in 2008 she caught the attention of the American indie rock band, Freelance Whales. As the sole female band member, Doris’ vocals featured on the track ‘Spitting Image’. Doris just released her first solo single ‘Big Kiss’, which she wrote, recorded and mixed in her own bedroom.”

“After selling out two nights at the Shacklewell Arms on their last trip over, Californian quintet The Growlers are coming back to the UK next week for an extensive tour, including a night at the Scala in London on 30th October. Ahead of their visit, the band have shared new song ‘Dogheart II’, taken from their upcoming ‘Not. Psych! EP’.”

“Sheffield’s Best Friends have released a new video for ‘Nosebleeds’. ‘Nosebleeds’ is available now as part of the ‘Happy Anniversary’ single on Art Is Hard Records. Best Friends are Lewis Sharman, Tom Roper, Jack Collister and Ed Crisp.”

“Suffolk boy/Australian girl duo Swallow & The Wolf self released their new single and music video ‘Fire’ worldwide on October 21st; the follow up to 2012’s ‘Sunrise Mountain’ EP. Recorded at Guy Chamber’s Sleeper Studios in London with producer Oliver Som, the song is the first track from their new EP, to be released early next year.”
