Video: The 1975 cover One Direction for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge

The 1975 have covered One Direction‘s ‘That’s What Makes You Beautiful‘ – the performance has been posted to YouTube and can be watched below.

Adding their own brand of emotive guitar work to the teen-pop favourite, The 1975 aired the track as part of BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge series, which encourages unusual or unique cover versions.

The band were at the BBC as their self-titled debut album looks on course to cement a fast-rise for the band since the release of their debut EP just last summer. The record is at number on the midweeks, leading Nine Inch Nails‘ comeback ‘Hesitation Marks‘.

“This album is the soundtrack to our formative years,” the band’s frontman Matthew Healy has said. “The culmination of our adolescence and the cornerstone of our material thus far. That’s exactly what it is.”

“I dunno exactly how I feel about releasing this album, the fact that it’s such a personal statement and creation hinders me from having an objective opinion. All I know is that it’s an uncompromising and honest depiction of who we are and what we’re about and I’m very proud that we’ve had the opportunity to make an album like that.”
