Charlotte Church to give third annual John Peel Lecture

charlottechurchwideCharlotte Church has been announced as the guest speaker for the third annual John Peel Lecture.

The classical singer and occasional pop-star follows previous lecturers Pete Townshend, who discussed the future of the music industry in 2011 (describing Apple as a ‘digital vampire’ in the process), and Billy Bragg.

Church will look at the representation of women in music when she speaks at the Radio Festival 2013 in Salford on October 14th, and has remarked:

“I’ve had some interesting times during the past 15 years, facing the same problems that many other women face when trying to forge their way in the music and entertainment worlds. I’m looking forward to encouraging a healthy debate around this important topic.”

BBC 6Music’s head of programmes James Stirling, whose station will later air the talk, added: “For Charlotte to question and debate the roles held by women within the music economy encapsulates the opinionated spirit of 6Music.”
