Arctic Monkeys smash it in New York

Arctic Monkeys whet the true music fan’s appetite for their newly released fifth studio album via the trickle release of three stand out tracks from AM, before its official release on September 9th.

Already a Mercury Prize nominated album, AM has created its own piece of history by becoming the fifth straight Number 1 debut album for an Indie-released band while simultaneously helping the Arctic Monkeys expand their catalog of outstanding music. Read Live4ever’s review here.

Last night at New York City’s famed Webster Hall, the Sheffield four-piece literally made the Grand Ballroom floor shake, by way of a masterful performance, plucking songs from all five albums and book-ending the main set with two of those pre-album release tracks, ‘Do I Wanna Know?‘ and ‘R U Mine?

It was next to impossible to get a ticket for this show, with many fans unfortunately getting screwed by douchbag touts selling fake tickets. But as unfortunate as that may have been it laid bare the highly anticipated return of the Monkeys to one of their homes away from home in New York.

That sense of anticipation came bursting out of the fans packed into the room when the four lads walked on stage to rapturous applause.
Alex Turner led the band out, arms open wide, dressed in a glittering blazer, as if he wanted to hug the room. He then picked up his Vox 12-string electric guitar and began the procedure of showing how it’s done live – proving that their talent does not just exist in the studio but as one of the pre-eminent bands of our generation.

The exceptional ‘505‘ closed out the encore and Arctic Monkeys left town once more, growing the appreciation and appetite real fans have for great music and live performance that the mainstream continues to ignore.
