Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones came close to joining BBC ‘talent’ show The Voice, but decided to withdraw as talks progressed.

Speaking to MTV, Jones revealed he entered early discussions with the show’s bosses with a view to signing up as a judge, but ‘bottled it’ when things started to get more serious. The place on the swivelling chair eventually went to Danny O’Donoghue of The Script.

“I had a couple of chats with some people and once they asked me back for the third chat I realised they were serious and I bottled it,” Jones explains.

“It took between January and June of your year away and I don’t think I’d be that comfortable judging other people. We’re happy as being a band, I mean we watch it on a Saturday night for a laugh but it’s not what I really want to do.”

On the back of their 2013 album ‘Graffiti On The Train‘, Stereophonics embark on a tour of North America from mid-September.
