A jacket which was a favourite of John Lennon‘s in the late Sixties is expected to sell for as much as £12,000 when it is put up for sale in Derbyshire.

The jacket fell into the possession of one-time Beatles PA Jo Jo Johns in 1971 when Lennon left British shores permanently for the States, and was later given to her friend Tony Goddard as a birthday present.

Since then, it has been proudly on display in Goddard’s home, but will now be auctioned off at Hanson’s Auctioneers. “The jacket was given to me at one of my birthday parties in the early 70s,” Mr Goddard has told the BBC. “Jo Jo was a good friend and she had acquired a lot of abandoned belongings from the band members.”

“There is no doubt, in my mind, that this jacket was well worn by John in the late 1960s,” Charles Hanson, manager of Hanson’s Auctioneers, has said, while junior valuer Elizabeth Bailey added that ‘the whole room dropped into a stunned silence’ when the significance of the item was explained by the owner.
