Arctic Monkeys chasing ‘something different’ on new album

James Ford has said the Arctic Monkeys purposefully aimed for ‘something different’ during the recording of their new album ‘AM‘.

In conversation with NME, the band’s regular producer said there was a collective effort to move away from the sound of 2011’s ‘Suck It and See‘, and that ‘all bets were off’ on this occasion.

“On the last record we tried to do a ‘band in a room’ type thing, with barely any computers used,” he said. “It was very much to tape. But this one was a case of ‘all bets are off’. The band wanted to push things on and do something different. So to move it on and make it sound different we were very open to using bits of keyboards or drum machines, or whatever worked for the song really.”

‘AM’ is released on September 9th and will be supported with a UK arena tour taking place during October and early November.
