Hugo White has said The Maccabees are about halfway through completing work on their new album, which is being self-produced by the band.

Speaking to DIY Weekly, the group’s guitarist explains how the experience of recording the 2012 album ‘Given To The Wild‘ – when things in the studio didn’t go to plan – has given them the confidence to go it alone from the start this time around.

“‘Given to the Wild’ didn’t go as planned,” White says. “We went with some people and just thought, ‘this is far off from what we wanted’, you know? So we got all the files and went into our studio and were like, ‘We’ve got to make this record again in like a month!”

“So we redid pretty much everything before it was released. I think that learning curve especially made us realise, ‘Hold on a minute, we know exactly what we want’. It makes more sense to do it yourself, sometimes it’s less stressful because you don’t actually have to spend your time explaining yourself to someone else, who you think is understanding you but maybe isn’t.”

‘Given To The Wild’, led by one of last year’s stand-out singles ‘Pelican‘, went on to become the most commercially successful release of The Maccabees’ career to-date.
