Keith Richards has told XFM’s Ian Camfield he is expecting ‘flashbacks’ to The Rolling Stones‘ 1969 Hyde Park concert when they return there this weekend as part of the inaugural British Summer Time festival series.

Hyde Park was the site of a free concert organised by the Stones in July 1969 and arrived just a few days after the untimely death of Brian Jones. It became a hugely poignant show as tributes were paid to Jones, and also marked the first live outing for his initial replacement Mick Taylor.

“I’ve no doubt there’ll be some sort of flashbacks and reminiscences or something because after all, that was also Mick Taylor’s very first show with the Stones,” Richards remarks. “So I’m sure there will be a couple of moments where it’ll all come back to us.”

“You always thought with the Hyde Park show, you’ve done that, you’ve been there and that it will never happen again. And now here we are – I guess if you hang around long enough, everything happens twice!”

A special stage featuring a 70ft, mock oak tree has been erected for this weekend’s gig in memory of its Sixties predecessor.
