First International Cassette Store Day announced

cassettestoredayThe humble cassette will be celebrated later this year with a series of special releases.

The inaugural International Cassette Store Day takes place on September 7th, and arrives after a recent upsurge in interest for the vinyl format which has been led largely by the annual Record Store Day drive.

Labels including SEXBEAT, Kissability and Suplex Cassettes have jumped on board, while bands including At The Drive-In, Pulled Apart By Horses, The Flaming Lips and Deerhunter have all agreed to re-release albums on the cassette format.

Organisers describe the initiative as ‘a celebration of a physical product that is accessible, fun, cheap and still going strong in the turbulent current musical climate’.

To coincide with the one-off releases on September 7th, the Rough Trade East venue in London will host live bands and DJs, with similar events expected to be arranged in Los Angeles, New York and Tokyo.
