The future of Morrissey‘s ongoing South American tour is in doubt after widespread reports in the local media claimed the iconic singer had cancelled all remaining dates due to ‘severe food poisoning’.

Gigs in Lima, Peru opened the tour this week, but it seemed yet more health problems had again forced Morrissey to pull out of live engagements in order to return to the UK for ‘specialist treatment from his personal physicians’.

This coming after a tour of North America was eventually scrapped earlier this year following a series of serious illnesses which the former Smiths frontman recently revealed had nearly killed him.

However, promoters for shows in Argentina and Brazil, due to take place in late July and early August, have responded by insisting those dates are going ahead as planned, writing on Facebook:

“Despite the news of malaise of the musician and his team in Lima, please be advised that the singer-songwriter shows in Brazil were not cancelled.”

As yet, there has been no official word from Morrissey on the fate of the tour.
