Arctic Monkeys: Glastonbury ‘one of the best gigs we’ve ever done’

Alex Turner has labelled Arctic Monkeys‘ headline gig at Glastonbury last weekend as ‘one of the best gigs they’ve ever done’.

Led by Turner’s new-found confidence as a frontman, the Sheffield band’s performance at Worthy Farm last Friday night was far removed from their sullen, under-whelming appearance in 2007, and received the seal of approval from the group when speaking to NME shortly after coming off stage.

“It’s one of the best gigs we’ve ever done, ever,” Turner remarks. “Just because it’s Glastonbury. It wasn’t raining, and it’s Glastonbury!”

“This is the best it gets! You only ever do, like, five gigs like this. And that one was the one. You do big shows, big festivals all the time. But it’s a different beast, Glastonbury. We’ll carry on playing to a lot of people all over the summer, but it won’t have that feeling we had just then. That feeling I can’t describe. It felt like I was in outer space.”

Arctic Monkeys opened their show with the new single ‘Do I Wanna Know?‘ – the first official taste of material from their upcoming fifth album ‘AM‘.
